This week (Alnwick YB1 30/07/2022) again the weather wasn't playing ball for good racing. The 2,400 birds and 13 other crates were held till 12md before being released from Alnwick in good broken cloud with a clear line of flight for the 88 mile journey back into this weeks winning loft. The winner covered the flight in 2 hrs 14 minutes recording a velocity of 1162. Full report with Photos here
Again it was the brilliant partnership of Barclay McCrindle & Son who take 1st,2nd,3rd Open federation on 1162,1162,1160 velocity. That's seventeen yards per minute faster than the next loft. These guys are very special at this game and have been winning at the top level of young bird racing wherever they fly. They obviously have a top system and the best of bloodlines to dominate the Lanarkshire federation young bird racing.
The race itself wasn't great, with big gaps between birds and plenty of empty perches. What went wrong ,who knows. The birds were coming all day and into the next with a number of birds missing.
Think the birds were turned and watching them home the first of them were homing from the North west, as if they are coming out the back end.
That's us at this stage and the birds are getting hit!
Again the number of birds competing was significantly lower than past years
