This week (11/06/2022) takes us to Kettering, North Northamptonshire, England. Around 271 miles back into lower Central Scotland. The weather was very unpredictable for this time of year and with 43 miles an hour wind and much more in the gust factor predicted, it was going to be a very difficult decision for the race controller.

The decision was made to liberate the convoy of 1800 Lanarkshire birds and 4 other crates at 07 15 in a light South west wind becoming very fresh on route. The weather at the home end was persistent rain and a wind that was blowing the new leaves off the trees.

Full report with Photos here

The winners completed the journey in under 6 hrs and two pigeons recording a velocity of 1413 & 1411ypm. But as usual this wasn't the total picture with most having a number of birds to come at clocking.

The lofts in form reported good returns eventually and like most weeks the lofts in form had good early returns.

I had one yearling return with most of his tail missing again nothing unusual for birds to return with injuries. It’s a weekly occurrence!

The feedback was that it was felt our race controller got the decision right on liberating when other held or put race marking back 24hrs.Well done Paul.

This week’s winners of 1st Open federation are Calum and Liz McMillan of Newmains club in the Centre section. The partnership had a terrific race and have been recording top team performances over the season including 1st,2nd,4th,6th section this week..

I contacted Calum to congratulate him and get some details of his winner. The 2yr old check hen is from Ian Stafford and is a Lambrecht out of Linbro x John Angwin. His second pigeon is out of Ian Stafford Lambrecht as well. The Linbro pigeon has bred 1st, 2ndclub and 1st sect,2nd Open and 3rd Open federation in the Yearling derby.

Calum was quick to thank his partner Liz for attending to the cocks and hens exercise during the day, all good lofts require routine and Calum pointed out that without Liz he wouldn't manage due to working. Well done to one of the top lofts in the federation.

Andy Eadie dropped a note to say Tony McGinn continues his cracking season winning Cambusnethan/Morningside club and 3rd & 5th Centre section photos included.

Andy reported that last week’s winner of JJK Gillon partnership was a German bred pigeon. This could possible a first for me to report a winner bred in Germany.

Tommy Battersby reported on Chapelhall club result 1st,2nd,4th Battersby & Quinn and 3rd was H Kidd & Son. Tommy's winners are out of Thomson of Port Seaton lines.

Franny Sloan is a good winner in Airdrie club with a Blue yearling hen, Sire is a direct son of Stevie Wonder of Proper Rick and the Dam was purchased of John Creagan of Manchester from direct Jan Hooymans pigeons.

John Hood reported that Andrew McBurnie had won another in Chryston club. Andrew reported that his winners Sire was 2nd sect E Buckingham bred by Gavin Ferguson paired to a Stuart Donaldson hen who was a good racer for him winning plenty of tickets.

Harry Brown reported that young Dean McGregor had won the yearling average in Dalziel club in only his third season racing. Brilliant Dean keep it up young man.

Dave Love has an excellent 1st & 2nd in Clarkston and 9th & 10th North section his winner is a yearling blue hen sitting eggs. He has two racing hens paired in his widowhood cock section. All roads lead to Rome!
