This week we were programmed for Alnwick race point but due to unseen circumstances the convoy of 3,325 and 18 other federation crates was sent to Wooler with a 09.30 liberation in an east wind. It was a terrific liberation as viewed on What's App.
When racing out the east side of the country in an east wind then its going to be quick. The winners broke the 1700s and the majority of the birds were home in" jig time" and most were pleased with a good build up for next weeks 270mile race from Kettering. Reports of 100% returns is always good news.

The returns this season have been excellent until we move over the 150 miles mark! More miles more air borne obstacle.
This weeks winner is the Jose Mourinho( Special one) of the pigeon game, that is Lewis McCalley. This was what I said to Lewis when I contacted him to congratulate him on his brilliant win. Lewis replied that's a bit more like the Ian Holloway.
Lewis has exploded onto the Lanarkshire scene and has took the pigeon game by storm. He fly's a small team of pigeons ,starting with around sixteen, he has lost one to the falcon and has one badly injured and four out of action with flight or body injuries. So he had 11 pigeons at the race on Saturday and took the first 7 in the club and 1st Sect 1st Open 3,300 birds including 21st ,89th,96th Open federation.
This is not unusual for Lewis as he has won the last two Young bird Open races with the same amount of pigeons and already this season has topped the federation in Wooler 1.race(The first race of the season 16/4/21) and Worksop race 21/5/22 and the Yearling Derby Open and 1st Open federation Wooler.
This is a very serious CV and maybe the special one isn't to far of the mark!
That is 4 x 1st Open federations in last 9 federation races, with birdage that is up with the best in the country. Its up there with the best!
I was lucky enough to put his pigeons through on basketing night and could see the condition of the pigeon in the basket before even handling them ,they were "gleaming".They handle well bodied but buoyant to hand, they are extremely well balanced pigeons and are mostly blues and check with the odd w/f .They are settled and come to hand very easily. One I call the chocolate hen, because if she was chocolate you would eat her, she looks that good.
Just a fanciers views on one of the best, new exciting pigeon fanciers coming out of Scotland.
Lewis gave me the details of this weeks winner. She is a two year old Check w/f that won two federation prizes as a youngster but wasn't raced as a yearling as Lewis raced only cocks .She was sitting nine day eggs and missed last weeks race as she was going to nest.
Her breeding is Sire is Woodroffe Brothers.I bought him at John Duthie's clearance sale as Albert Woodroffe told him he was off the pigeon they consider to be one of their best, a very special cock they call Albert. The list of winners from this cock is unreal and as a point of interest a granddaughter of Albert topped Sunderland & Dist federation yesterday.
The Dam was one Lewis bred at his old loft. Her sire was old John Crook/Dalgliesh of Ecclefechan cock ,he bred a lot of excellent pigeons including 1st sect D SNFC Ypres. Lewis paired him to daughter of his good Davie Hunter hen. She was 6th & 127th Open SNFC Ypres and 38th Open Alencon,a son of hers was 18th Open Alencon at my old loft.
Well done Lewis and what a magnificent season you are having and I'm sure your not finished yet!
Just to note Lewis helped basket Mio Krivokapic pigeons this week as he was on leave and Mio took the section and first five in Greenfield club!
