Lanarkshire Federation – Hexham Old Bird Friday 7th May 2021

This week we are in Northumberland, North East England, for a race from Hexham around 97 miles back into Central Scotland. The weather has been dodgy all week with sleet and snow and weather that just isn't spring. Race controller took the decision to race mark Thursday for a Friday race. The word came through that the 6,200 Lanarkshire federation birds and 23 other organisations crates birds were liberated at 7am in a North West wind.

The race was won in 2hrs 13 minutes for a velocity of 1290ypm.This is a terrific velocity for such a wind into this area. But it didn't reflect the race as it was very erratic with birds scattered to the four winds. Returns were reported as a mixed bag, good bad and ugly! My own is the later.

Can’t gloss over it, can’t see anywhere near the numbers of entries for next week’s convoy.  Full Report with photos here

This week’s winner is the brilliant partnership of GWP Macaloney who take the first two places in the Open federation and nine in top fifteen of section. They are just different class!

Their winners are bred from their new dream pair lines, generations of federation and National winners.

Well done to the Macs on another federation topper, which beat the full 7,300 convoy.

Only fancier to supply details to me of his winner this week was Alec Stewart of Clarkston & Dist club,Alec had a fine race winning with a Lambrecht hen bred from parent bought from Ted Balmer, this was a good race for Alec also recording 3rd,6th & 7th club 230 birds. Alec has a very smart set up and his lofts and garden is a credit to him and his sport. Well done Alec.
