Lanarkshire news-Worksop report 30th May2026
This week we arrive in Nottinghamshire, England around 209 miles back to the winning loft in lower Central, Scotland.
Our convoy of 2,060 birds were liberated at 06 15 hrs into a light south west wind.
The winning pigeon took 4 hrs 5 minutes to record a velocity of 1500ypm for Richard Copland of the Burnbank club in the west section of the federation.
Richards winner a Bw/f C is bred in the pink from his P & D Breeding Stud stock .The winner is out of a sister to his Champion Mealy Pied cock that topped the Lanarkshire Open last season, unfortunately this pigeon was badly injured in Wetherby race and has been retired to stock.
The Sire of 1st Open federation is a P & D Breeding stud stock pigeon .This BW/F C is every bit a Champion himself topping the South Lanarkshire on two previous and this weeks 1st Open Lanarkshire .
He has numerous other federation positions and lifting his pools at Dumbarton Open.
Richard competes with a small team between the Lanarkshire, Burnbank and South Lanarkshire Hamilton clubs.
The winner had two short trainers before racing started and was initially raced on the roundabout system but was paired two weeks ago and was racing to his first eggs.
This week he received to 15 mile road trainers as he was on nest and also out morning and evening for loft flying.
Richard said he came like a bullet to win 1st West section,1st Open federation this week.
Like most Richard has had his losses and with a small team this can have a big impact on competing every week, so he has to select races rather than chase averages.
Well done to Richard who is a very well respected fancier who gets the best out of his small racing team.
Reaching out to the section winners -Johnny Sirrell of Carluke club provided a photo and some details of his winner.
The yearling Blue C was flown on the celibate system and loft exercised, his Sire was 5th club last week and is bred out of Koopman Janssen/Bulk lines. The Dam is from a Who Dares Wins 2020 ,20th Open winner.
Thanks Johnny for the information and you can see the class of the pigeon in the photo included.
Ian Rankin provided me with a picture and information of his North section winner. This 2yr old BC was raced on the roundabout system and is bred from his Lambrcht stock from Brian Dearn of the Lancashire Social Circle.
These birds have won for Ian over the years.
John McPheat & Sons winners in Clarkston with a cracking BC that was purchased at club member Andrew McKee clearance sale.
This little cracker has proven a top pigeon with last year winning,27th sect,50th Open Bubwith , 4th sect,10th Open Billericay 345 miles and 10th sect,49th Open 383 miles then 6th sect,10th Open Worksop 211 miles.186 miles.
A wee topper!
The race itself was rather erratic, possible due to recent static in atmosphere due to extreme heat during the past week. Like most weeks at this distance there was pigeons missing at nightfall.
