Lanarkshire Federation – Ripon Old Bird 22/05/2021

This week takes us to Ripon in North Yorkshire,England, the weather again was changeable and  some federations changed their day of racing. Our race controller remained steadfast and the birds were liberated on Saturday in a brisk north wind for the 162 miles journey back into Central Scotland. The race was an excellent steady race for the birds with good returns in the first hour and will hopefully put the birds in good fettle.

The winner of the race is from the most northerly club in the federation.

Winner is Colin Gray of Chryston club who timed his red check cock pigeon in three hours fifty seven minutes for a very healthy velocity of 1204ypm.

Here is a little back ground to Colin's winner. As a youngster he was later bred, so didn't get much racing in his year of birth. As a yearling he was a winner before being injured in a hawk attack.2yr old  was a difficult time with the cock refusing to leave the loft, Colin persisted with him as he always thought there was something in him to be a good racer.

The pigeon has paid dividends'  with 1st sect,1st Open federation with ,5,100 birds. His breeding is from Jim Benvie Jan Aarden bloodlines, dam is from Colin Crees from his bird The Banker a golden award winner.

He has been raced on the roundabout system with him showing great excitement for his hen on basketing. He is managed on the build up feed system, depurative and widowhood/fat mixtures.

Colin had 24 of his 38 birds home in the first hour of the race.

Colin would like to thank his younger brother Maxwell for his assistance with the pigeons.   Full Report with Photos here

Well done Colin on a very fine performance!

The race was a good steady affair birds homing well on the day. Like most weeks some were missing birds but that's the name of the game nowadays racing pigeons.
