Lanarkshire Federation – Worksop  Old Bird and Yearling Derby 05/06/2021

This week we are in the Nottingham area of England  for our 211 miles flight back into Scotland. The weather was very much better of racing of pigeons. The 3,750 birds were liberated at 07 30 am in a light south wind, the winning bird recorded 1541 ypm for the winner.

This was around the four hour mark for their flight.           Full report with photos here

This weeks winner of 1st sect,1st Open federation comes home to my own partnership  Tom Corrie ,Son & G/son of Clarkston club in the North section. Our winners is a 3 yr old Blue/w/f cock flying to his box. He was bred by my uncle, Peter Anderson of Greengairs nr Airdrie. This is from his Vanderabeele stock obtained from his good friend Mr & Mrs Archie Price of Cheshire.

Thanks Archie, its always good to see your stock can win in other federations.

Much thanks to both fanciers as Peter has bred me a number of good pigeons over the last three seasons.

Tom Corrie snr is the hard working member of the partnership and is a ever present in the daily routine of the pigeons. He deserves all the credit for this excellent win.

The winner has been a very steady bird and was on the Kettering Open result last year and was 9th section last week from Wakefield. He is a dominant pigeon who would take any box in the section if he sneaks a weakness in his fellow pigeons. He has a great temperament and is always around if you are in his section. He races celibate and the box is his motivation.

He arrived with his daughter from the race who took 2nd North section.3rd Open federation .Like father like daughter on this occasion.

Its always good to get a turn in the doos and this week we can be" King of the Sky” for a day.

Thanks to everyone for the social media and phone call congratulations on our federation winner.

Special mention to Jim Cameron of Uddingston club, Jim is our hard working federation secretary but is also a fantastic fancier and is having a brilliant season, winning the Centre section three times and 2nd and third in the other races. That’s some flying and takes him to second on the federation average board. Well done Jim

Moving on to this weeks Yearling derby race in conjunction with the Worksop race. Its a pool race for the yearlings only.

The winner of the race was Joe Polockus & Ryan Feenie of Blantyre club in the centre section. I contacted Joe to congratulate him on his top result and obtained some details of his winner.

The winner a check pied cock is a van den bulk x stricker bloodline gifted to them by Anthony Croburn from Liverpool,so the partnership would like to thank him.The winner was unraced as a young bird but heavily trained. He flew all races this season and was in the top four back to the loft each week.He was trained Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday most weeks leading up to the race.He has never paired up and fly's natural to two boxes which he controls with no other bird allowed near.He and the other yearlings have been stopped to help build a team for next season as Joe only started back last season with the young birds.

Joe would like to thank his Dad John for all his help and support in the past years.John cant be hands on due to health reasons but helps with purchasing new stock and helping withthe maintenance of record keeping.Joe said his Dad pushes him to get better with his high standards.

Joe also wishes to thank son in law Ryan Feenie for his help in the partnership. They called the winner "Ryguy" after Joe’s grandson Ryan who loves helping with the birds.

Well done to the partnership and thanks for the details of Yearling Derby winner.

Andy Eadie reported the win of Issac Fairley Cambusnethan / Morningside club. Zeek lives on the outskirts of Shotts and if he sticks his head out his top window he can see most race points. His race winner is a Vanderabeele  raced on roundabout and has had every federation race. Thanks Andy.

Douglas Telfer sent some information about Dalziel club,Photo of Robert Girdwood who is now flying regularly and also one of Willie & Jimmy McFarlane. They won the club Ripon race and took a good fed position. Willie is the Hall keeper for a good number of years with responsibility of managing the race baskets. A job that doesn't attract a lot of thanks.

Thanks for the information ,wish some other clubs would also send some information.
